We have developed and implemented a core curriculum to teach the fundamentals of human biology, pathophysiology and molecular medicine to all interested basic science PhD students. In addition, students are required to engage in clinical shadowing experiences and participate in clinical conferences. Additional required activities such as the bedside to bench conference and translational lunches offer unique opportunities to gain perspective on road blocks for current therapies and discuss potential career paths with a diverse set of biomedical professionals.
